MARCO FERRARA, MD, FACS
Dr. Ferrara is board certified in both general and colorectal surgery by the American Board of Surgery and the American Board of Colon and Rectal Surgeons. He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. An Orlando native, Dr. Ferrara attended the University of Florida for his undergraduate training, graduating summa cum laude with a major in Biology. He received his medical degree from the Florida State University College of Medicine and then completed his general surgery residency at the Brookwood Baptist Health program in Birmingham, AL. He went on to complete his fellowship in colon and rectal surgery at the Ochsner Clinic Foundation in New Orleans, LA.
Dr. Ferrara serves as an Assistant Professor in Surgery at the University of Central Florida College of Medicine and Florida State University College of Medicine. He participates nationally in the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons and is past member of the New Technology Committee and current member of the Awards Committee. He also serves as a reviewer for the journals Diseases of the Colon Rectum and The Ochsner Journal. He is an expert reviewer for C-SATS, an international program aimed at enhancing surgical techniques through video review and education. His interests include minimally invasive/robotic surgery for benign and malignant disease, including offering sphincter-preserving surgery for low rectal cancers when possible, surgical education, and surgical simulation.
When not working, Dr. Ferrara enjoys running, brewing beer, playing the guitar/drums, cheering on the Gators/Magic/Orlando City, and spending time with his wife, Allison, and son, Nico.
